To start Bridger Western fishing, buy a Fishing Rod from Tackle Bait for 150 Moola, cast by clicking and holding toward your cursor, and complete the quick-time event to reel in your catch. Bait costs 10 Moola and works directly from your inventory, with one consumed per cast. Return to Tackle Bait to sell caught fish and eligible items, or keep fish to cook at a campfire.

This guide follows the official Trello cards reviewed on October 15, 2026. The instructions describe the published mechanics; they have not been verified through a gameplay session. Use the current on-screen prompts if a server behaves differently, and check the linked cards for documentation changes.

01

Check your utility space before buying a rod

The Tackle Bait card identifies the Fishing Rod as a utility. It also warns that buying one at your utility limit replaces an existing item. Check what you are carrying before making the purchase, especially if your other tools are expensive to replace.

The Banker card lists a carrying limit of four utilities and bank capacity of 15 items. Bank equipment you want to keep when you need room for the rod. Bank storage also accepts guns and other items, so existing deposits count toward that capacity.

Banking has a separate character-wipe limitation. The Banker card says items placed in storage are not kept upon a wipe. Treat rearranging equipment for fishing and intentionally wiping a character as different decisions, because ordinary storage does not protect your collection from the latter.

02

Buy a rod and decide how much bait to carry

Speak to Tackle Bait to buy the rod and any bait you want. A rod plus one bait costs 160 Moola at the documented prices. The vendor also lets you buy multiple bait at once, but start with a budget you can afford while learning the fishing sequence.

You do not need to equip bait or click it separately. According to the Fishing Rod card, having bait in your inventory makes the pull time twice as fast and increases the legendary pull chance. Every cast consumes one, so check your remaining supply instead of assuming the first purchase lasts for the entire session.

Bait is an optional addition to the rod's fishing loop. If you are still learning the controls, a small purchase lets you see how quickly your supply is used. For help organizing the trip to shops, use the map guide and the broader beginner route.

03

Cast toward your cursor and follow the QTE

Hold the click input to cast the rod toward your cursor. After casting, complete the quick-time event, usually shortened to QTE, to reel up the catch. Follow the event displayed on screen instead of repeating an assumed fixed key sequence.

The source says the event's length and difficulty depend on the rarity of the catch. It also notes that a shaking QTE can occur. A different event therefore does not by itself mean that your rod has stopped working or that you need to purchase another one.

The catch pool includes crocodiles as well as fish and equipment. Pay attention to what you actually reel up before deciding your next action. The documentation does not provide a complete button-by-button solution for each QTE, so this guide does not assign controls the source never specifies.

04

Sell common fish to turn catches into Moola

Tackle Bait handles both buying fishing supplies and selling catches. The rod card lists Cod at 35 Moola, Bass at 45 Moola, and Snapper at 25 Moola. These are documented common-fish values, which makes them more useful for a first-session budget than an exceptional rare reward.

Decide whether a fish is for selling or cooking before you use it. Selling supports your next equipment purchase, while cooked fish can provide a buff. Neither choice requires you to wait for a legendary catch before the fishing activity has a purpose.

Keep bait spending separate from the amount received when selling fish. A sale value is not the same as profit after supplies, and the source provides no measured hourly income. Use the money guide when you want to compare fishing with the letter-delivery quest and other documented activities.

05

Read rare catches without assuming a guaranteed reward

The Fishing Rod card lists chests in the rare pool and several epic results, including Snubnose, Mares Leg, Poncho Blueprints, Tackle Bait Can, Urn of Undead Ashes, and Crocodile. Those entries show that a catch does not always become ordinary fish income. Check the identity of an unusual result before treating it as something to sell.

The card gives a 0.1% legendary-pool chance, increased to 0.2% with bait. These figures describe the legendary category, not a separately measured probability for obtaining an Arrow Shard. They also do not establish a number of casts after which the game must award a legendary result.

Golden Bass requires particular caution when planning purchases. The current card questions whether it is obtainable and flags its sell value as bugged. Do not budget around a guaranteed 15,000-Moola payout, because the same source that lists the fish also marks that reward as uncertain.

06

Keep an Arrow Shard for its Stand purpose

Arrow Shards are listed as legendary fishing results and serve as a Stand obtainment method. The current Arrow Shard card says a shard grants a Stand, with exceptions for unobtainable Stands and those requiring specific obtainment methods. That is a guarantee about using the item, not a guarantee that fishing will produce it.

The same card says Arrow Shards can be banked or stored and are not lost upon death or leaving. It also says they cannot be dropped or used while you already possess a Stand. These current rules are more useful than older claims that every death or disconnect destroys a shard.

If you catch one, check your existing Stand before trying to use it. Read the Arrow Shard guide for the acquisition and storage details, then the Stand guide for the wider progression choice. The bank's character-wipe limitation still matters when deciding what to reset.

07

Cook fish at a campfire and avoid eating them raw

The Cooking Fish card says to place caught fish in a campfire. Leaving them there too long burns them, so watch the fish rather than treating the campfire as unattended storage. The source shows cooked and burnt examples but does not provide an exact cooking timer.

Eating raw fish makes your character throw up and briefly stuns you. The rod card says cooked fish provide a buff based on the fish variant. It does not give a complete buff table or durations, so choose from the information the game displays instead of relying on an invented effect list.

For a first fishing session, buy the rod, learn a cast and its QTE, then decide whether the resulting fish is for money or cooking. Keep enough room for equipment you intend to preserve and review unusual catches individually. Once you understand that loop, you can decide how much bait spending fits your next progression goal.
